John Denver는 1943년 뉴 멕시코주 에서 태어났으며
1969년 솔로 데뷔앨범 《라임즈 앤드 리즌스(Rhymes & Reasons)》 발표했다.
그는 미국의 싱어송라이터 겸 배우.
1970년대 컨트리 팝 음악 대중화에 기여했다.
대표곡으로 <Take Me Home, Country Roads>(1971),
<Annie's Song>(1974),
<Thank God I'm A Country Boy>(1975) 등이 있다.
Take Me Home, Country Roads은 1971년 미국 빌보드 싱글차트 2위를 기록한 곡으로 많은 대중들에게 사랑받는 곡이다.
이 노래는 ‘에이리언 : 커버넌트’에서 엘시자베스 쇼 박사가
부르는 장면이 잠깐 나온다.
또한 최근에는 ‘킹스맨 : 골든 서클’에서 이 노래가 나오는데
서정적인 원곡과는 달리 웅장하고 무엇인가를 결심한 비장미까지 느껴지면서
골든 서클의 명장면으로 꼽히고 있다.
